Topwater fishing offers an alternative to bottom fishing. The Roumba Wake Bait is especially ideal for top-water applications. The lure mimics the action of a wounded fish floundering in the water, and is effective at attracting a variety of large fish including the bass. One option to the Roumba Wake lure is the Ima Lure's Roumba, which is manufactured in Japan and is available for sale online and in tackle stores.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Easy

Things You’ll Need:
  • 7- to 7 1/2-foot medium rod
  • 12- to 17-pound test monofilament fishing line
Step 1
Rig a 7- to 7 1/2-foot medium rod with 12- to 17-pound test monofilament. Weight adjustments can be made depending on water conditions. For example, select a lighter line when fishing clear waters, and a heavier line when fishing dark waters.
Step 2
Loosen the drag on your line and cast long using a fast cast-and-retrieval technique. Hold the bait on the surface of the water for several seconds. Raise the tip of your rod as you slowly reel in the line. The bait will form a V-shaped wake on the surface.
Step 3
Control the action of the lure as you would a shallow-running crankbait. Lower the rod so the tip is at the 4 o'clock position. Using fast wrist action, bounce the Roumba Wake bait repeatedly under water. Wait several seconds, and then retrieve.

Tips & Warnings

Set your hook by sweeping your line horizontally after you feel a fish holding your hook.
