You've set up your camp at your favorite backwoods destination or state park. As the temperature drops when night falls or you're trying to warm up in the morning, you bring out your camping equipment to make a tasty treat. Using just a few pieces from your camping cookware set, you can froth milk for hot chocolate and lattes. The process is easy, and as long as you can build a fire, you can froth milk in minutes.

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy

Things You’ll Need:
  • Milk
  • Fire
  • Airtight container
  • Camping kettle
  • Spoon
  • Pot holder
  • Coffee mug
  • Aluminum pan (optional)
Step 1
Pour 1 cup of milk into an airtight container. Shake the container vigorously for 30 seconds or until it starts to froth. You can also use a plastic bottle.
Step 2
Pour the cup of milk from the container into an aluminum camping kettle or an enamel or aluminum camping pan. You can also use any other fire-safe container designed for camping.
Step 3
Bring the milk to a rolling boil over an open fire. Stir the milk occasionally to reduce the amount of frothing, which can occur as the steam pressurizes the milk and causes it to overrun.
Step 4
Remove the kettle from the fire using a potholder. Spoon the frothed milk on top of your hot cocoa or coffee.

Tips & Warnings

If your budget allows, use an outdoor milk frother kit to froth milk while camping. See the owner's manual for complete instructions, as product directions will vary from product to product.
