Before you start using your kayak to paddle the many scenic water routes in Oklahoma, you must first register your watercraft. All boats used for transportation and recreation on the state waters, with a few exceptions, are required to be titled and registered yearly. According to the Oklahoma Tax Commission, the registration period for kayaks is from July 1 through June 30 of the following year. The law requires you to carry your current boat registration in the kayak while in operation.

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy

Things You’ll Need:
  • MSO or Manufacturer's Statement of Origin
  • Boat Inspection Form
  • Computer and printer
  • Internet access
  • Application for Original Boat/Motor Title
Step 1
Prepare your kayak's MSO or Manufacturer's Statement of Origin and Boat Inspection Form. MSO is the certificate that provides your kayak's manufacturer's name and its Hull ID Number (HIN). The Boat Inspection form confirms the serial number of your boat. Both documents must be notarized and should have been included with your watercraft at time of purchase along with notarization.
Step 2
Access the internet and visit the Oklahoma Tax Commission website. Click the "Forms and Publications" tab on the web page and find the "Boat and Motor Forms" option from the list.
Step 3
Download the "Application for Original Boat/Motor Title" from the Boat and Motor Forms list. Print the application form.
Step 4
Fill out the application form. You will need information such as your boat's length and its serial or hull Number (see Resources section).
Step 5
Visit the Oklahoma Tax Commission office and submit your filled-out boat title application along with the MSO and Boat Inspection Form.
Step 6
Pay the registration fees. According to the Oklahoma Tax Commission, fees are based upon the manufacturer's original retail selling price of your kayak and its current age.
Step 7
Receive your title, registration number and decal for you boat. Your kayak is now registered in Oklahoma.
