Shakespeare reels are available in a range of colors including fire engine red, purple and dark gray. Shakespeare reels are sleek, manufactured with aluminum and titanium parts and compact for easy handling and casting. Purchase Shakespeare reels online and at local fishing tackle stores. Some Shakespeare reels are ultra light; all are identified by the Shakespeare logo and fishing reel series.

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy

Step 1
Check the reel foot for the company name. The company name is printed in bold cursive letters across a white stripe. Above is a blue strip and below is a green.
Step 2
Check the spinning handle on spinning reels. Check that “Shakespeare” is printed in cursive letters across the spinning handle. The name of the fishing reel series will be printed across the main body shaft of the spinning reel. Check the reel for both identifiers.
Step 3
Check the cast control on bait cast reels. Check that “Shakespeare” is printed in cursive letters across the cast control, which is located atop the spool.
Step 4
Identify antique Shakespeare reels using the two-digit dating code printed on the reel foot, after the model number. Use the Shakespeare Reel Series Dating Formula, which is available on the Shakespeare.com website. Look up the two-digit numbers and determine when the reel was manufactured and if a design change was made to the reel.
Step 5
Locate the model number on the reel foot. Contact the Shakespeare company at 800-466-5643 to obtain a product description of any Shakespeare reels matching the model number on the reel foot.
