How to Care for Fishing Gloves

Fishing gloves are important for several reasons. They protect the hands from injury when handling fishing hooks and fishing knives, shield the hands from odor when handling fish and bait and provide UV protection. To maximize the performance and quality of your fishing gloves, use proper care when handling, cleaning and storing them.

Things You’ll Need:

Detergent
Cleaning pan

Step 1

Wash fishing gloves after frequent use or if the gloves become submerged in saltwater. Salt will remain on your fishing gloves long after the water has evaporated if not washed. Salt buildup can cause fishing gloves to become stiff.

Step 2

Stir detergent into a cleaning pan filled with warm water. Mix until the cleaning solution produces suds.

Step 3

Wash the gloves by hand in the cleaning solution. Rinse and then wring the gloves. Hang to dry.

Step 4

Store fishing gloves outside your tackle box. Poor ventilation can trap moisture in your fishing gloves. Store in a well-ventilated area and hang to dry, if damp.

Step 5

Lay your fishing gloves flat after use. Fishing gloves feature a grip strip for easier handling of fishing equipment. Failure to lay your fishing glove flat could damage this and other product features over time.

Avoid rolling your fishing gloves into a ball to maximize space in order to maintain the integrity of the fabric.
