Zebco is a widely recognized name in the world of fishing and is known for producing easy-to-use, reliable and long-lasting fishing reels. The Zebco 33 is one of several reels produced by the company and is available in the Standard, Gold, Platinum and saltwater models. The Zebco 33 is a spin cast reel capable of handling a variety of game fish species. Winding line on the model 33 is a basic part of routine maintenance that is easy and something all owners should know how to do.

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy

Things You’ll Need:
  • Zebco 33 with matched spincast rod
  • Monofilament fishing line
  • Sharp scissors
Step 1
Pull the free end of the new monofilament line you will be installing down through the line guides on the rod. Begin at the end of the rod at the rod tip and string the line through each of the line guides as you work down the length of the rod.
Step 2
Remove the spool cover from the front of the Zebco 33. Grasp the reel cover, located on the front of the reel, and turn it to the left or counterclockwise. Pull the cover straight out and away from the reel so that the spool of the reel can be accessed.
Step 3
Feed the free end of the new fishing line through the hole in the spool cover and then pass the line around the spool of the reel so that 6 to 8 inches of line extends past the spool.
Step 4
Attach the line to the spool with an arbor knot. Tie the knot by forming an overhand knot with the free end of the line so that the loop of the knot goes around the main line. Tie a second overhand knot below the first one using only the free end of the line. Moisten the knots and pull down slowly to lock them in place against each other and the spool of the Zebco 33 reel.
Step 5
Attach the spool cover to the reel by pushing it straight onto the reel and then turning to the right to lock it in place. Hold the line several inches in front of the spool and apply slight tension. Tension is necessary in order for the spool to pick up the line and begin winding it.
Step 6
Turn the handle to continue spooling the reel. The Zebco 33 is rated at holding 130 yards of 10-pound monofilament line. Do not overfill the spool as this can affect the operation of the reel while fishing.
