How to Buy New Jarvinen Forest Skis

Jarvivnen Lapponia cross country forest skis are 280 cm long, 70 mm wide at the waist, and have wax-free soles which function designed to ski through crust, slush, muck and soft snow. Forest skis should be mounted with a Swedish kandahar binding such as the KABY. Buying these skis in the United States may prove to be challenging since as of May 2010 there were no major dealers of the ski in the country. Purchasing the ski requires patience as you will be ordering from overseas and potentially have to deal with duty and taxes at the US Post Office.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Challenging

Locate an Overseas Dealer

Things You’ll Need:
  • Computer and Internet connection
  • Credit card or PayPal account
  • Physical address to receive the skis
  • Duty forms
Step 1
Use the Internet to locate an overseas dealer of the Jarvinen Forest Skis. Look for dealers in countries such as Finland (where they are made), Norway or Sweden. Inquire as to the price, and calculate the shipping costs for the package. Use resources available at the United States Postal Service to calculate costs, but depending on where you are having them shipped in the United States, count on spending an additional $75 dollars for the shipping costs.
Step 2
Print a copy of your online receipt to show the costs of the skis so the Post Office and duty agent may calculate the proper duty fee you will be charged.
Step 3
Contact your local United States Postal office your mail comes through and tell them about the package you are expecting and the contents.
Step 4
Fill out the appropriate duty forms, either before the skis arrive or upon their arrival and when requested by the postal employees so, they may collect the duty fees and taxes. Keep copies of all receipts and forms.
