Camper shell windows are typically manufactured in six styles: horizontal slider, 112 degree horizontal slider, 105 degree horizontal slider, picture window, 112 degree picture window and 105 degree picture window. You can remove and replace each camper shell window type using a few simple tools. You will need an assistant, or if you are quick with your hands, you can complete the project alone.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Easy

Things You’ll Need:
  • Flathead screwdriver
  • Screwdriver
  • Putty knife
  • Putty tape
  • Window frame
  • Staple gun
  • Silicone caulk
Step 1
Pry the staples on the window screen from the camper shell using a flathead screwdriver. If the window is secured with screws, unscrew each screw using a screw driver.
Step 2
Push the window screen out. Have an assistant outside the camper shell to stop it from falling to the ground.
Step 3
Unseat the inside window frame. Cut away old caulking and sealant, if necessary, using a putty knife.
Step 4
Apply putty tape to the interior rim of the window opening. Seat the new window frame into place on the window opening.
Step 5
Staple the new window screen with a utility staple gun or screw in the screws. Have an assistant hold the screen from the outside so it doesn't push out during the re-installation process.
Step 6
Apply a thin layer of silicone caulk to the perimeter of the window.

Tips & Warnings

Have an assistant help you if possible.

Wait 24 hours before using a newly seated window screen.
