How do I Cook Canned Bisquits on a Camping Stove?

Any avid camper will tell you that nothing beats a hot breakfast around the remnants of a campfire after a good night's sleep under the stars. Canned biscuits don't take up a lot of room in the cooler, and they taste delicious prepared on a camping stove and served with butter and jam. They may look a little different than when you prepare them at home due to the crowded conditions in your dutch oven, but they will taste just as good--maybe even better--thanks to the butter you'll grease the Dutch oven with instead of nonstick spray.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Easy

Things You’ll Need:
  • Camping stove
  • Dutch oven with lid
  • Butter
  • Canned biscuits
Step 1
Set your camping stove to medium heat, and preheat your Dutch oven lid.
Step 2
Grease your Dutch oven with butter.
Step 3
Open canned biscuits, and place them in your Dutch oven. The biscuits should be touching, but not misshapen. Generally, eight biscuits will fit in a 10-inch Dutch oven and 30 biscuits will fit in a 14-inch Dutch oven.
Step 4
Use a hot-pad to place the hot lid on your Dutch oven, and put the Dutch oven on your camping stove.
Step 5
Bake for 15 minutes, using hot pads to turn your Dutch oven a quarter-turn every five minutes to ensure even baking.

Tips & Warnings

You can bake canned biscuits in a Dutch oven over coals using this same method.

Canned biscuit dough begins to deteriorate two hours after you open the can, so don't try to save any of the biscuit dough for your next meal.
