How do I Dry Wash Hair for Camping?

Washing your hair while camping takes on a whole new meaning if you have long hair. No one wants to be fussy or uncool, but no one wants to have nasty, smelly, oily hair by the third day of the trip either. Some things even a hat or a bandanna can't hide. If you're going to be camping with no access to running water, pack some dry shampoo. It's not the same as having a shower, but it will tide you over until you get back to civilization.

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy

Things You’ll Need:
  • Hairbrush
  • Dry shampoo
Step 1
Shake the bottle of dry shampoo.
Step 2
Apply the dry shampoo sparingly to your hair at the roots by lifting up your hair section by section and spraying as you go.
Step 3
Use both hands to rub the dry shampoo into your roots and your scalp.
Step 4
Wait five minutes for the dry shampoo to dry.
Step 5
Hang your head upside down and brush your hair starting at the roots, all the way down to the ends. Flip your head back up and style your hair the way you usually do.

Tips & Warnings

Use 1 tbsp. of the shampoo if it is in powder form, then follow the same technique.

Dry shampoo is not just for camping. Use it at home to make your blow-outs, color jobs and straightening treatments last longer.

Too much dry shampoo can make your hair look worse than when you started. It's best to start with too little, and repeat the process if you like the results but think you should have used more product.
