How to Identify Coleman RV Air Conditioners

How to Identify Coleman RV Air Conditioners

Coleman RV air conditioners are designed to use less power without sacrificing cooling performance. The Coleman-Mach 3 PLUS and the Mach 3 P.S are examples of high-efficiency cooling units offered by the Coleman company. When purchasing a Coleman RV air conditioner, look for the energy-efficiency rating. This rating will tell you exactly how much energy your Coleman RV air conditioner will absorb. You can find it printed on the side of the cooling unit, on packing and in the factory service manual.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Easy

Things You’ll Need:
  • Factory service manual
Step 1
Identify the parts. Coleman RV air conditioners feature a high-efficiency compressor, a high-efficiency fan motor and over-sized coils, which allow Coleman RV air conditioners to maximize cooling performance and minimize amp draw. Look on the back of the cooling unit for the amp draw.
Step 2
Focus on the construction. Heavy-duty, industrial-strength plastic and reinforced construction make it easy for Coleman RV air conditioners to handle the jarring and vibrations associated with rugged, off-road travel. Look for a compact construction that is vented in the front. Coleman RV air conditioners are generally only available in white.
Step 3
Look for high performance in extreme heat. The higher the temperature outdoors, the harder it is for a standard RV air conditioner to maximize cooling performance. Coleman RV air conditioners use less power and function under severe desert conditions. For example, the 8433 Rough Neck model features 13,500 BTUH of high-efficiency cooling power.
Step 4
Look for dual performance. Coleman RV air conditioners offer a heat strip to take the chill out of cool mornings. Both the 8433 Rough Neck and the Mach 3 P.S feature a delivered BTU heating output of 5600. The cooling unit must produce heat as well as cool air to qualify as a dual-performance cooling unit.
