How to Make a Portable Shower With PVC

If you are planning to camp in an area that does not provide bathhouses, you can still have your shower each day with a simple PVC shower that is quick and easy to make. It is lightweight and can be taken apart for travel. A trip to your home improvement store will provide all you need to build the enclosure, and a camping store will have the water storage bag.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderate

Things You’ll Need:
  • 12 feet of PVC pipe no bigger than 1 1/2 inches in diameter
  • Elbow attachments
  • 2 shower curtains
  • 2 sets of shower curtain rings
  • Cord or rope
  • 2 carabiners or metal clips
  • Shower bag
Step 1
Cut the PVC pipe into four parts of 3 feet each. A saw should do the trick.
Step 2
Sand away jagged or rough edges.
Step 3
Insert the ends into four corner PVC joints to create a square.
Step 4
Attach curtain rod rings to each side.
Step 5
Attach shower curtains to the rings and close the rings. Use one curtain for two sides. This way two of the corners will be sealed. Overlap the curtains on one end by using a ring from the other side of the corner for each.
Step 6
Tie cord to the four sides of the shower and attach them to a metal ring or carabiner. Use the ring or carabiner to hang the shower from a rope around a tree branch or whatever you find handy.
Step 7
Tie a fifth cord to the ring and let it hang down toward the shower. Attach a carabiner to the other end. Use this to hook the shower bag when you want to take a shower. It should suspend a little above the shower so you have room for the bag above you.
