Rhode Gear Bike Rack Instructions

Transporting a bike by vehicle is an often necessary part of riding. A wide variety of bike racks and mounts are available from roof rack mounts to hitch and trunk mounts. The trunk mount may be the most economical choice for owners of vehicles with a trunk as it requires only the rack itself. Unless already equipped, to use a roof or hitch mount rack will require the purchase and installation of a receiver hitch and roof rack system. Rhode Gear produces a line of trunk mounted racks that are easy to use and meet the needs of many cyclists.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Easy

Things You’ll Need:
  • Vehicle with trunk
  • Rhode Gear trunk mount bike rack
Step 1
Loosen the yellow knobs on both sides of the trunk mount carrier. This will allow you to adjust the U-shaped supports to fit the contour of your trunk. When the rack is adjusted to a position that is stable and secure, tighten the knobs by turning to the right until snug.
Step 2
Attach the upper hooks to the edge of the trunk lid near the rear window. Attach the front straps to the lower edge of the trunk lid. Adjust the tension on the straps so that the lower U support rests just above the license plate.
Step 3
Attach the side hooks to the left and right edge of the trunk. Adjust the tension on all six straps so the rack is correctly positioned, centered and securely attached to the trunk lid.
Step 4
Loosen the yellow knobs one at a time and position the bike support arms so that they are parallel to the ground. Only loosen one knob at a time to retain the correct position of the upper and lower U supports. Tighten the knobs tightly to secure the rack in place.
Step 5
Load one bike at a time, making sure each is securely mounted to the rack. Mount the second bike in the opposite direction to distribute the weight as evenly as possible.

Tips & Warnings

Secure the bikes to the rack with adjustable straps or shock cords.

Consider adding a cable bike lock to lock the bikes to the rack.

Periodically check the straps during transport and tighten as needed.
