How to Make a Fishing Light

Fishing lights are interesting additions to your fishing experience. They are used to bring smaller fish in toward your location, which in turn attracts larger fish. This helps when you are unsure of where the fish are located in a body of water, or find that they are less active and want to get them moving. You can buy a fishing light at a supply store or make your own with some simple items.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderate

Things You’ll Need:
  • Clear, waterproof container
  • Fishing line
  • Spool or something to wind the line up on
  • LED flashlight
  • Small rocks
Step 1
Obtain a clear, waterproof container such as one used to keep valuables dry at the beach or pool. These typically come with a clip or loop so they don't get lost.
Step 2
Attach fishing line to the loop or clip on the container. Give it enough line to lower it to the proper depth.
Step 3
Put the container in water to test if it is really waterproof.
Step 4
Put a small LED flashlight inside the container and close the lid. Put it back in water to make sure it sinks. If it doesn't, add small rocks, fishing weights or sand. Retry.
Step 5
Take the light when you go fishing and test it.
