Jeep vehicles are popular among many outdoor enthusiasts for transportation to and from areas of recreation. Often times this recreation involves cycling activities such as mountain biking. Jeep owners may use their vehicles to transport their bikes to forests, parks and other areas where trails and paths allow bike use. Many Jeep vehicles feature rear-mounted receiver hitches that make mounting a bike carrier to a Jeep vehicle a simple process and one that most owners can easily accomplish.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Easy

Things You’ll Need:
  • Jeep with rear-mounted receiver hitch
  • Hitch mount bike rack
  • Hitch pin with clip
Step 1
Unpack the receiver hitch mount bike rack for your Jeep from the box. Follow the manufacturers directions to assemble any parts such as the support arms.
Step 2
Remove the receiver plug, if necessary, from the hitch. Inspect the hitch for signs of damage before proceeding. The receiver tube should be free from excessive rust and any damage.
Step 3
Lift the bike rack so that the lower horizontal mounting post is level with the receiver tube. Have someone assist you during this part of the installation if necessary.
Step 4
Slide the hitch mounting post in to the receiver tube. Push the hitch completely to the back of the receiver tube so that it will be supported by the Jeep hitch during the remainder of the process.
Step 5
Locate the two holes on either side of the receiver tube. Work the hitch post forward in the tube until the the holes in the post align with those of the receiver tube. Insert a hitch pin through the tube and post. Secure it on the other side with a clip.
