Anchovy is a small and silvery fish with a bluish green back that makes excellent bait for fishing. This small fish typically never grow bigger than eight inches. It is a significant food source for numerous predatory fish in its environment, making it an effective lure for catching gamefish. As a bait, you can use it as either fresh, frozen or even the plastic kind. Hooking up an anchovy is a simple process that requires few materials.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Easy

Things You’ll Need:
  • Anchovy
  • Fishing gear and tackle
  • Toothpick
Step 1
Hold the anchovy and insert the hook high into its side approximately 1.5 to 2 inches up from the end of its tail. The shank of your hook should lie flat against the anchovy.
Step 2
Hold the bait's head in one hand and pull the leader to place a curve in the bait. Make sure to curve towards the hook side, as the end of tail must be curved in.
Step 3
Hold the curve from the bait's rear end by pushing a dry toothpick just under the skin into its flesh and near the tail.
