How to Obtain a Dutch Passport

How to Obtain a Dutch Passport
A Dutch passport serves as identification from the Kingdom of the Netherlands and is issued to Dutch citizens or nationalists. The passport is required for international travel by Dutch citizens and once residency or nationality is established, is rather easy to obtain and renew.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Easy

Things You’ll Need:
  • Proof of Dutch residency Passport application 2 passport photographs
  • Proof of Dutch residency
  • Passport application
  • 2 passport photographs
Step 1
Establish Dutch residency by birth, naturalization or option as required by law. A resident by birth is someone born in the Netherlands to at least one parent with Dutch nationality. A Dutch resident by naturalization must be over 18, hold a permanent resident permit, show five years of continuous residency and show sufficient integration into Dutch society. Residency by option, on the other hand, is for individuals who are married to a Dutch resident, a minor under joint custody or someone aged 65 years or more who has been a legal resident for at least 15 years.
Step 2
Fill out the passport application, which can be found on the Netherlands Embassy website.
Step 3
Complete the application and schedule an appointment with the Royal Netherlands Embassy passport and visa office.
Step 4
Take the completed application to the Dutch Embassy along with proof of residency, two passport photographs and payment for the passport. If you live abroad, the passport application must be done in person; otherwise, it can be mailed into the passport agency in the Netherlands.
Step 5
Once approved, the passport will be mailed to the address you provided. Your passport will be valid for five years after issuance.
