How to Compare Swarovski to Leupold Binoculars

Swarovski and Leupold are two of the world's top binocular makers. Both offer a wide variety of binocular options for those who wish to observe things from a distance. Both feature regularly in top 10 binocular lists, whether the binoculars are used for hunting or simple bird-watching.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Easy

Things You’ll Need:
  • Swarovski binoculars
  • Leupold binoculars
Step 1
Consider size. It the binoculars are meant for a younger user--one with smaller hands--or are meant to be carried over long distances, smaller binoculars might be in order. Swarovski makes a pocket model that fits inside most jacket pockets. If size is the only issue, this might be your best bet for a spare set of binoculars or for leisure viewing.

Leupold, on the other hand, offers its extremely lightweight, palm-sized Rogue series of binoculars. Rogue binoculars, though small, don't compromise on features or magnification power. The same goes for Leupold's ultra-small Mesa Compact and Katmai series.
Step 2
Consider aesthetics. If you are looking for something more along the lines of a classic pair of binoculars, Swarovski probably offers the best option--the leather-armored black Habicht. The closest thing Leupold offers to a classic pair of binoculars is in its Yosemite series, though even these sport a more modern look. If that modern looks appeals to you, Leupold offers the most variety.
Step 3
Consider lens coating. Swarovski binocular lenses are coated with Swarobright, Swarodur and Swarotop coatings to enhance color, brightness and contrast. Swarovski binocular lenses additionally enjoy Swaroclean coating; the non-stick qualities of this coating reduce the need for binocular maintenance.

Leupold lenses use DiamondCoat, which decreases the lenses' susceptibility to scratches.
Step 4
Consider water-resistance. One of the surest ways to reduce the longevity of a pair of binoculars is to expose it to water. On this account, Leupold is the better brand because its binoculars are waterproof and guaranteed for life. The same can't be said for every pair of Swarovski binoculars.
