How to Load a Thule Bicycle Rack

How to Load a Thule Bicycle Rack
Unless you've got a station wagon with a massive back area or a pickup truck, chances are that to transport your bike in your car to another location you will need to use a roof carrier. Bicycle roof racks are useful for vacation riding or even a simple move. Thule is one of the more popular roof rack manufacturers on the market, and the company makes a variety of carriers for transporting your bike.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Easy

Step 1
Slide the rack's ratcheting arm to a forward position, roughly parallel with the bike carrier. Press the gray button to extend it to its largest length.
Step 2
Place the bicycle in the tray with the front wheel near the forward edge, and then slide the bicycle backward until the front wheel rests against the wheel loop.
Step 3
Hold the bicycle steady with one hand. Using your other hand, lift the ratchet arm until it is positioned 1 inch in front of the fork of the bicycle and resting on the front tire.
Step 4
Ratchet the arm until the holder is secure against the front wheel. This will usually be two to four clicks.
Step 5
Feed the rear ratchet strap through the bottom of the rear tire and into the ratchet clamp, and close the ratcheting cam.
Step 6
Tug the bicycle in four directions to make sure it is securely attached to the rack.

Tips & Warnings

The V notch of the front ratchet arm must be securely seated against the tire to maintain stability of the bicycle in the rack.
