How to Change a Luggage Lock Combination

How to Change a Luggage Lock Combination
Combination luggage locks are a great investment for the ease of use and peace of mind they offer. Without any keys to carry or potentially lose, combination locks are virtually fool proof. What's even better is that these locks allow you to select any combination you choose. By following a few simple steps, you will quickly and easily be able to change the combination on just about any of your locks, including luggage locks approved by the Transportation Security Administration (TSA).

How to Change a Luggage Lock Combination

Step 1
Open the lock by entering your original combination or the factory set combination if the lock is new. This is usually 0-0-0-0, but should be included with the packaging.
Step 2
Move the lock into the combination change position. On most locks, this is done by releasing the metal shackle on top of the lock, rotating it about 90 degrees, and pressing it down back into the lock. Some locks only require that the lock be left open.
Step 3
Pick the new combination. Figure out what you would like the new number sequence to be and line it up on the face of the lock.
Step 4
Put the lock back into the normal position. Releasing the shackle should set the new combination. You may have to move one of the dials to close the lock again, since many won't close if the combination is set.

Tips & Warnings

Make sure to remember your new combination, writing it down if necessary.
