How to Clean a Marmot Tent

How to Clean a Marmot Tent
Marmot, which started in 1973 as a company making high-end clothing and sleeping bags for mountaineering, entered the tent business in the early '90s. The company makes everything from ultralight shelters for backpackers to single-wall and double-wall mountaineering tents for high-altitude expeditions. After taking your Marmot tent on a long adventure, you can prolong its life by cleaning it when you get back to civilization.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Easy

Things You’ll Need:
  • Nikwax Tech Wash
  • Nikwax UV Proof
Step 1
Set up the tent in an outside location and let it dry out, if it is still wet at all.
Step 2
Open the zip doors on the tent and pick it up by the poles near the top of the tent and shake any dirt out of the tent.
Step 3
Fill a bucket with a mixture of water and Nikwax Tech Wash, a gentle non-detergent cleaner.
Step 4
Sponge-clean the outside of the tent with the Tech Wash, paying close attention to the underside of the tent and the lower portion of the tent, where dirt is most likely to accumulate.
Step 5
Sponge-clean the inside of the tent with Tech Wash.
Step 6
Spray-clean the tent with water from a hose, first on the inside, then the outside of the tent. Let the tent air-dry in the sun.
Step 7
Spray Nikwax UV Proof on the clean dry tent to help protect the tent from UV damage.

Tips & Warnings

Do not wash your tent in a washing machine, as the fabric can tear and the coating on the nylon can be damaged.
