Mention a Zebco Rhino to most anglers, and a sturdy bait cast reel will come to mind. The Rhino model calls upon the years of design experience that Zebco has attained through the production of a wide range of bait cast reels. The Rhino, as its name implies, is tough and durable. Just as with any fishing reel, there might be necessary maintenance involved such as changing a worn line. This is an easy process.

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy

Things You’ll Need:
  • Zebco bait cast reel
  • Replacement fishing line
Step 1
Press the spool release button on the top rear of the reel. The button must be depressed to allow the line to spool from the reel.
Step 2
Unscrew the front cover from the Rhino reel. Turn the spool cover to the left so that it can be unlocked and removed.
Step 3
Pull any old line from the reel. Wind the old line around a pencil, drink bottle or your fingers as it spools off the reel. This will make collecting and disposing of the line easier. Use a pair of snips to cut the line if it is difficult to remove from the spool.
Step 4
Feed the tag end of the new line through the hole in the spool cover. Pass the line around the spool and use an arbor knot to attach the line to the spool of the reel. Moisten the knot, pull down tight and trim excess from the tag end of the knot.
Step 5
Attach the cover to the reel by lining up the guides and turning the cover to the right to lock it in place. Apply tension to the line in front of the spool and turn the handle of the reel to engage the spool and begin winding line onto the reel.

Tips & Warnings

The line capacity is between 65 and 80 yards depending on the diameter of the line being used. Refer to the manufacturers instructions or open the cover and look at the spool to determine when it is about three-quarters full.
