How to Go On a Vacation to Hawaii Cheaply

How to Go On a Vacation to Hawaii Cheaply
Hawaii ranks high as a popular tourist destination, but it tends to be expensive in terms of airfare, lodging and dining compared to other destinations. That doesn't mean that you can't find cheaper ways of vacationing there. As of 2010, a souring economy has forced Hawaiian tourism to considerably lower airfare and hotel rates. Even when the economy is thriving, though, you can still find ways to save money on Hawaiian vacations. Ultimately, it comes down to finding the right travel agency with the best deal and picking the right time of year to travel.

Finding Cheaper Rates in Hawaii

Step 1
Travel to Hawaii in the wintertime when all rates, including airfare, are lower. You'll be able to find lower hotel rates across the board and still enjoy warm weather.
Step 2
Head to Maui and Oahu where property development has increased in recent years and where cheaper rates usually exist, travel expert Pauline Frommer said in CNN Travel. Condos and rental properties there cost considerably less than on the other islands.
Step 3
Negotiate rates with hotels and resorts that interest you on the Hawaiian Islands. During times of economic uncertainty, they are more than willing to lower prices to get your business.

Cheap Online Vacation Packages

Step 1
Go to Expedia.com, where you can get discounted Hawaiian travel packages. This online agency helps you save money by combining airfare with the hotel cost. Four-night resort stays on the main islands are available for well under $1,000 a person, as of 2010.
Step 2
Use TripAdvisor.com to find cheaper airfare to Hawaii. It provides a price comparison feature on its airfare page with other sites such as Priceline and Orbitz. Place a check mark next to each site listed to compare price, click "Find Flights" and choose the best rate.
Step 3
Visit the online travel agency Cheap Travel Hawaii, which touts itself as the best source for cheap Hawaiian vacation packages. The savings come from low overheads. You can book your Hawaiian vacation in the light blue box on the left side of the main page.

Tips & Warnings

When a sour economy gets better, even the cheaper rates go up somewhat. Expect this to happen off and on throughout a period of years. But avoid traveling to Hawaii during the peak summer tourism season of any year to save money.
