For some, removing training wheels from a bicycle is a rite of passage. At some point a child outgrows the need for training wheels, and it's time to graduate to the use of only two wheels. Whatever your reason for removing them, training wheels can be quickly and easily be with a single ordinary tool.

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy

Things You’ll Need:
  • Adjustable wrench
Step 1
Hold one of the axle nuts on the rear wheel while loosening the opposite nut with an adjustable wrench. These nuts affix the training wheel arms to the bicycle.
Step 2
Remove the nut and slide the arm of the training wheel from the axle.
Step 3
Screw the same nut back onto the axle. Use only your fingers until you're sure the nut is properly threaded.
Step 4
Use the adjustable wrench to fully tighten the bolt. When fully tightened, the bolt will be flush against the side of the bicycle frame.
Step 5
Follow Steps 1 through 4 for the second training wheel.
