Swix Ski Wax Instructions

While hot waxing skis with an iron is the best way to get your skis in top shape, Swix makes several waxes that can be applied without an iron that will keep your skis humming along in between professional tuning sessions. As an added bonus, these products can be applied at the slopes to upgrade the performance of your skis if you feel they are dragging.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Easy

Things You’ll Need:
  • Base cleaner
  • Fiberelene cloth
  • Liquid wax
  • Cork
Step 1
Clean the bases before applying new wax by spraying the base cleaner on the ski bases and letting it set for one minute, then rubbing it off with the fiberlene cloth.
Step 2
Visit the online Wax Wizard to determine which liquid wax to apply to your skis. The choice of wax is determined by the temperature of the snow. Since many people don't know this, the outside temperature will be a good guide.
Step 3
Apply the liquid wax using the sponge applicator on the end of the tube, spreading the wax in a smooth layer on the ski base. Allow the wax to set for two minutes.
Step 4
Use the cork to polish the wax smooth.

Tips & Warnings

Err on the side of caution by waxing with a too cold wax, instead of a too warm wax, if you are unsure what wax to use. Using a warm weather wax on cold snow will make your skis stick.
