Installing or replacing boat seats is an easy way of adding extra comfort, ample seating, and a touch of class to your marine vessel. Swivel seats or captains chairs are the most common type of seat. You can choose from a variety of options and almost limitless color combinations.

Step 1
Take your base plates and make a layout of where you want your seats to be mounted. Trace the outer and inner circles on the deck. Make sure there is nothing below that might be damaged when drilling or screwing.
Step 2
Use a hole saw to cut out the inner circle you marked during layout. The pole the seat attaches to will slide through the base plate and through this hole. Skip this step if your base plates do not have a through-hole
Step 3
Use layout marks and place base plate over previously cut hole. Align the hole in base plate directly over hole in deck.
Step 4
Screw 1-inch stainless self-tapping wood screws through each screw hole on base plate for wood decking. Use toggle bolts for fiberglass decking.
Step 5
Make a silicone bead around the base plate and over screw heads to make a waterproof seal.
Step 6
Slide chair poles through base plates and attach chair tops.

Tips & Warnings

When ordering seats, check whether fastening hardware such as screws or bolts are included. If not, then ask for a recommendation for what to use with the specific model of seats you are ordering.
