Americans or children of Americans living in Canada are able to access passport services. Online forms enable simpler completion through the use of a passport application wizard with payment calculation. The two main forms are the DS-11 for first time applicants who must apply in person at a consulate and the DS-82 for renewals, which can be completed through the mail.

Ensure you have proof of US citizenship. If you need to prove that now, determine the page you will visit by your age. Follow the link to the adult citizenship determination page if you are 18 or over. Follow the link to the report of birth abroad page if you are under 18.
Step 3
On the original passport website, choose which form you will need to fill out. Form DS-82 is for applicants who still have their last passport and whose passport was issued less than 15 years ago when they were over 16. Name changes must be accompanied by appropriate documentation. Other forms are available for special incidences such as children's passports, amending your passport and adding pages to your current passport.

For a DS-11, apply with your completed form in person at a United States Consulate in Canada. These are spread throughout the country, including in Ottawa, Montreal and Vancouver. For a DS-82, you can send in your printed application by mail.
