Tents come in a variety of different shapes, styles and colors. Some tents have different rooms inside and some have a tepee shape, but one of the more popular options is a dome tent. Dome tents sleep six people, with room for their personal items inside, and nearly every manufacturer makes their own dome tent. These tents are easy to assemble since they share the same instructions.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Easy

Things You’ll Need:
  • Broom
  • Ground cloth
  • Tent
  • Tent stakes
  • Tent poles
  • Rain fly
  • Hammer
Step 1
Check the area and remove any debris or trash in the space where you plan to assemble the dome tent with a broom. Then lay down a ground cloth. Most tents don't come with a ground cloth, but it's an important piece of equipment because it protects the bottom of the tent from damage and helps keep rain from getting inside the tent.
Step 2
Decide how you want the tent to face and lay the tent flat on the ground, with the door facing the direction you want. Unzip the door if it's zipped. Pull one corner of the tent and push a tent stake through the loop. Then move to the next corner and push the tent stake through. Repeat on each corner and then push through any remaining stakes.
Step 3
Put together the poles, being careful to assemble each one correctly. Most tent manufacturers now place a cord inside the tent poles, which makes it easier to assemble the poles. Slide one of the poles through the pole sleeves that stretch across the tent. The pole should move from one corner to the next. Then slide the second pole through the pole sleeves, with the poles crossing in the middle.
Step 4
Look at the bottom of each corner of the tent and find the ring, which holds the end of the pole. Pull up on the pole until you have enough room to slide the pole through this ring. Repeat on each corner and the tent will now have its classic dome shape. Connect the clips on the tent to the poles, if your dome tent has these clips.
Step 5
Attach the rain fly by placing it on top of the tent. Then locate the elastic loops at each corner of the rain fly and pull down each loop until it stretches over the tent pole and slip it into place. Once you have the rain fly attached, use the hammer to pound the tent stakes through the loops and securely into the ground below.
