How to Pack a Garment Bag

How to Pack a Garment Bag
Garment bags are a great way to pack for a business trip. The bags allow travelers to keep their suits and attire wrinkle-free, and they help to maintain their shape. Packing a garment bag requires proper planning ahead of time to ensure that your outfits stay looking their best. Garment bags have adequate space to hang suits and outfits on hangers, and they come in various sizes to suit your needs.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderate

Things You’ll Need:
  • Tissue paper Hangers Dry cleaning bags
  • Tissue paper
  • Hangers
  • Dry cleaning bags
Step 1
Prepare your clothes before you begin packing. Take your clothes to the dry cleaner or iron them before placing them in the bag. Plan your days to decide which clothes you will be taking with you. Essentially, if you will be away for three days, you will need three different outfits to wear.
Step 2
Maintain the structure of business suits. To keep your suits wrinkle-free, stuff sheets of tissue paper into the arms, shoulder and chest of the suit jackets and stuff sheets into the pant legs. This will add cushioning to the suits and it will keep them looking great while you travel.
Step 3
Place your outfits on a hanger. Add your shirts under each jacket to save space in your garment bag. Place a plastic dry cleaning bag over each outfit and hanger. If you took your clothes to the dry cleaner, it will be best to leave the dry cleaning bag over the outfits.
Step 4
Place the clothes hangers into your garment bag. Garment bags have an area designated for hangers, so you will simply just need to add one hanger at a time. Lay the outfits straight when placing them into the garment bag.
Step 5
Add your accessories in the other pockets. If you do not have room in the pockets, you can add items to the bottom of the bag. Place your shoes in a plastic bag to prevent dirt from ruining your clothes.
