How to Get a Tourist Visa in Rome, Italy

How to Get a Tourist Visa in Rome, Italy
When traveling to Italy by air you most likely are flying directly into Rome. When visiting Italy, like any other country, you need to ensure you have all the correct travel documents. This includes your passport, and depending on your nationality, a visa. However, you do not need to obtain a tourist visa before arriving in Italy, and receiving a visa in the country is rather straight forward.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Easy

Things You’ll Need:
  • Passport Return trip information
  • Passport
  • Return trip information
Step 1
Following your landing in Rome and your baggage collection, proceed directly to the customs check point.
Step 2
The customs official will ask to see your passport. He will scan the passport and ask you a few questions while your travel information loads on the screen. The questions will typically include why you are visiting Italy, for how long, and what you intend to do while there.
Step 3
Present your return information, if asked. Often the official simply asks how long you plan on staying in the country.
Step 4
Wait for the official to stamp your passport. Individuals from the European Union don't need this stamp, while citizens of Australia, Brazil, Canada, Israel, Japan, New Zealand and the United States can go without the stamp also. Individuals from all other countries must obtain this 90-day tourist visa. Since you are not obtaining a work or other type of visa, the stamp itself is the visa and indicates the entry date into the country and the date by which you must exit the country.
