How to Donate an RV in MA

How to Donate an RV in MA
Donating your RV can benefit a wide variety of charities and charitable causes, from breast cancer awareness to wounded veterans, from the Ronald McDonald House to boys and girls clubs. In Massachusetts, specifically, you may want to donate to the Paralyzed Veterans of America New England Chapter or the Provincetown Center for Coastal Studies, among many others. Donating an RV in Massachusetts needn't be a complicated affair--and that's where a facilitator might come in.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Easy

Things You’ll Need:
  • RV
  • Telephone
  • Computer (with Internet connection)
Step 1
Research potential RV donation facilitators in Massachusetts. There are several viable options that operate in the state. These include Action Donation Services, Purple Heart Donation Services and Cars for Breast Cancer--all outfits that additionally operate nationwide.
Step 2
Speak with potential facilitators to get an idea of how they operate. Is pickup free? What tax-deduction-related services do they provide? Do they accept RVs of the same make, model and year as yours? What about condition--will your RV make the cut? Is there a possibility that you'll receive a cash payment for your RV, to boot? Will the facilitator sell your RV wholesale or retail? What is the exact nature of the charity or charities in question? Based on the answers to these questions and your impressions, select a facilitator. For the purposes of this article, we will select Action Donation Services, which can be contacted by dialing (866) 244-8464.
Step 3
Follow the facilitator's instructions. In the case of Action Donation Services, you'll be asked to fill out a short online form, providing details about your RV. You'll also be able to select your charity via this form.
Step 4
Arrange for pickup. Most good services will perform RV pickup for free. Prepare the RV by cleaning it out and removing all personal items. Action Donation Services performs free RV pickups in Boston, Cambridge, Worcester, Springfield, Lowell and most other locations in Massachusetts.
Step 5
Maintain contact with facilitator. Any professional organization will contact you regarding the sale of your RV. Still, maintaining contact will make sure that you are made aware of when and for how much it was sold.
Step 6
Consult with your tax advisor to properly list tax deductions involved in the donation of your RV.
