How to Wash a JanSport Backpack

How to Wash a JanSport Backpack
JanSport backpacks are used for hiking, backpacking, commuting and as book bags. JanSport backpacks are available in a range of sizes and colors. From the everyday Right Pack to the Big Bear 82, there is a JanSport pack to suit most needs. During the course of normal use, it may be necessary to periodically clean your JanSport pack. With a few basic items, it is possible to remove most dirt and debris from your pack.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Easy

Things You’ll Need:
  • Mild soap and water
  • Soft bristle brush
  • Clean rags
  • Clothesline
Step 1
Remove all contents from your JanSport backpack and examine the pack for areas of ground-in dirt. Use a soft bristle brush to remove as much loose dirt as possible. A significant amount of dirt often can be removed by brushing.
Step 2
Mix a mild solution of soap and warm water. Use a clean rag to wipe out the interior of the pack. Pay special attention to seams and pockets, which tend to accumulate dirt and debris. Wipe the interior with a dry cloth to remove as much moisture as possible.
Step 3
Wipe the exterior of the pack with the soapy solution. Wipe down buckles, zippers and the interior of any side or front mounted pockets. Use a soft bristle brush to work the solution into hard-to-reach areas or heavy spots of dirt. Wipe the brushed areas with the soapy solution and then with a dry cloth.
Step 4
Hang your pack on a clothesline, over a rail or on the back of a chair. Open the pockets and position the pack to allow air to reach the interior. Allow the pack to completely air dry.

Tips & Warnings

Use only soap and water to clean the pack, as recommended by JanSport.

Do not put the pack in a washing machine or dryer.
