How to Get a Florida Saltwater Fishing License

If you're looking for some terrific fishing, head to the waters of Florida. Saltwater fishing abounds there. You have your choice of ocean, gulf, bays and the brackish water of rivers to do your fishing in. Whether you fish from the surf, a vessel or land, there's something for everyone when it comes to a fishing trip in Florida. Before you go fishing, though, you'll need to make sure you have a fishing license. Fortunately, the state has made obtaining one quite easy, with a variety of places selling them.

Things You’ll Need:

Step 1
Visit the local County Tax Collector's office. There are usually several located in each town. You will need identification, such as a driver's license, and some form of payment. You can purchase any type of saltwater fishing license the states offers at this office.
Step 2
Purchase your fishing license online at the Florida Wildlife Commission's license and permit sales site. You will need a credit card. You must be at least 16 years of age with a valid driver's license.
Step 3
Call the Florida Wildlife Commission's license and permit sales site at 1-888-FISH-FLORIDA. You will need to be 16 years of age or older and to have a valid driver's license and a credit card to make your purchase.
Step 4
Visit the sporting section of Wal-Mart and purchase your saltwater fishing license. You will need a valid I.D. or driver's license and some form of payment.
Step 5
Purchase your saltwater fishing license at local bait shops. You will need a valid I.D. or driver's license and some form of payment.
Step 6
Buy your saltwater fishing license at local fishing or outdoors stores. You will need to bring a valid I.D. or driver's license and a form of payment.

Lifetime and gold saltwater fishing licenses are only sold at the Tax Collector offices. You don't need a saltwater fishing license if you are receiving food stamps or Medicaid or are fishing from a vessel with a vessel license. As of August 1, 2009, anyone fishing from in salt water from land or a structure fixed to land will need a saltwater fishing license to fish.
