How to Measure Helmet Size

How to Measure Helmet Size
Ski and snowboard helmets are typically sized according to your head's circumference in centimeters. If you know your fitted hat size, you can convert that measurement into centimeters, but if you don't know your hat size you'll need to measure your head. There will be some variance in fit between different brands of helmets, so you should always try them on before purchasing--but in general, finding your helmet size is the place to start.

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy

Things You’ll Need:
  • Flexible measuring tape
Step 1
Stand or sit in front of a mirror, or have a friend ready to help you by reading off the measurement on your measuring tape.
Step 2
Wrap a flexible measuring tape around your head, just above your ears and your eyebrows. If you're doing the measurement yourself, the ends of the tape will need to overlap in the front or side of your head, where you can easily read the measurement in the mirror.
Step 3
Snug the measuring tape down so that it is firm against your skin but not tight or pinching. Read the measurement, or have your friend do so for you. Ideally you should read the measurement in centimeters, but if your measuring tape measures only inches, you can use the chart link listed in this article to convert from inches to centimeters.
