Layered Fruit & Nut Trail Mix-in-a-Jar Recipes
Layered fruit-and-nut trail mix in a jar makes a healthy, practical and colorful holiday, birthday or wedding gift that both children and adults enjoy. Depending on the ingredients used, it can also be affordable.

Things You’ll Need:
  • 1 1/2 cups dried, sweetened ginger chunks 1 cup semisweet chocolate chips, sun drops or carob chips 1 1/2 cups unsalted cashews 1 1/2 cups dried, sweetened mangoes 1 cup unsalted peanuts 1 1/2 cups plump raisins Two quart-size canning jars Spoon
  • 1 1/2 cups dried, sweetened ginger chunks
  • 1 cup semisweet chocolate chips, sun drops or carob chips
  • 1 1/2 cups unsalted cashews
  • 1 1/2 cups dried, sweetened mangoes
  • 1 cup unsalted peanuts
  • 1 1/2 cups plump raisins
  • Two quart-size canning jars
  • Spoon
Step 1
Pour dried, sweetened ginger chunks into the jar, and pack down with a spoon so that ginger is firmly in place. Repeat with chocolate chips, unsalted cashews, mangoes, peanuts and raisins.
Step 2
Place the lid firmly on the jar.
Step 3
Write a greeting, happy birthday or happy holiday note and attach to the lid with a ribbon. Write instructions on the jar, including that the trail mix should be stored in a cool, dry place.
Step 4
Store in a cool and dry place.
Step 5
Variation 1: Replace the mangoes and ginger with more colorful dried fruit, such as cherries or cranberries, for the holiday season.
Step 6
Variation 2: Use more raisins and peanuts in the mixture for a less-expensive fruit-and-nut trail mix.
