San Juan, Puerto Rico is known for its sandy beaches, exciting nightlife, and of course, beautiful seaside hotels which can range from the very cheap (about $35) to the ultra expensive ($500-plus). Most of the hotels in San Juan are located in Old San Juan, El Condado and Isla Verde, the top tourist areas in the city. The top 5-star hotels with casinos are situated in El Condado and Isla Verde, while Old San Juan sports the smaller, more picturesque hotels. The easiest way to find hotels is usually via your travel agent. However, their catalogs may not always offer what you're looking for. Here are some tips to help you find cheap accommodations in San Juan.

Contact the Puerto Rico Chamber of Commerce, either by phone or by email. There is a wealth of information on their website (see resources below) for travelers. Talking to a representative is an effective way to get the information you need. They may know if there's a specific hotel group that operates multiple inexpensive facilities in the city.

Step 2

Visit the Puerto Rico Convention Bureau website. This is another great resource that lists hundreds of accommodations categorized by type and location. Leaving the search box empty will bring a list of all accommodations in alphabetical order.

Step 3

Talk to the locals. If you know anyone from Puerto Rico or know someone who has a friend from Puerto Rico, talking to them is often a good way to get helpful information, the "inside" kind that is not available online.
