How to Clean Swim Shoes

How to Clean Swim Shoes
Swim shoes provide foot protection when you are in swimming pools, oceans, ponds and other water bodies. The shoes are typically made of rubber, with a grip sole that prevents slips and falls while in the water. As with any piece of apparel, swim shoes require cleaning to remove any dirt and kill any bacteria with which the shoes might come into contact. Cleaning your shoes after each use and disinfecting them occasionally will keep the shoes safe and wearable for years.

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy

Things You’ll Need:

  • Gloves, optional
Step 1
Wipe the shoes with a damp cloth after each use. Wipe both the inside and outside of the shoes until all visible dirt has been removed.
Step 2
Fill a bucket with enough water to submerge the swim shoes, then add liquid bleach to the water solution. Use one cap of bleach per one gallon water.
Step 3
Place the swim shoes in the bleach solution, and let them soak for 30 minutes. The diluted bleach will be safe for the shoes yet strong enough to kill bacteria.
Step 4
Remove the shoes from the water, and rinse them with hot water. This will remove any remaining residue, along with any bleach solution that might be left behind.
Step 5
Let shoes air dry.

Tips & Warnings

Wear gloves when handling the bleach to protect your skin from bleach.
