How to Eat Healthy While Traveling

How to Eat Healthy While Traveling
Traveling usually coincides with eating out and eating out often equals fatty foods and nutritionally unbalanced meals. But it does not have to be that way. Just because you're traveling does not mean that you have to eat unhealthy. With a little bit of preplanning and wise menu choices, you can eat healthy while on a trip.

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy

Step 1
Pack healthy snacks in your purse, backpack or carry-on bag. Some good healthy snack choices are fruits, vegetables, granola and nuts. If you are traveling by car, fresh fruits and vegetables are fine. Single-size serving bags of dehydrated fruits and vegetables are more convenient to carry on board for air travel.
Step 2
Bring bottles of water and single serving juice containers with you on trips. If you are going on a long car trip, freeze some of the water and juice containers so they stay cold.
Step 3
Preorder your airline meal when you book your seats. Most airlines have meal choices available by preorder to meet special dietary needs. To get your veggies in, ask for a salad or a vegetarian meal.
Step 4
Book a hotel room that has a kitchenette or a full kitchen so that you can do some of your own cooking. Stock the hotel room with quick, easy options to make healthy foods. Choices include oatmeal, salad fixings and sandwiches made with whole grain bread. When you book your room, check to see if the hotel provides grocery store shopping service. If they do, order your food items ahead of time so your room will be stocked with healthy food when you arrive.
Step 5
Order healthy choices at restaurants. To get a healthy meal, it may be necessary to order a few side orders instead of a full entree. Look for steamed lean cuts of meat, steamed vegetables, brown rice, whole grain pasta and rice dishes, fresh fruits and poached eggs.
