How to Repair Muck Boots

How to Repair Muck Boots
Muck boots are used for a wide range of activities from fishing and hunting to working around large animals such as horses and cattle. Muck boots are typically made of a single, seamless piece of rubber at least to a point above the ankle. Some boots will feature a lower portion that is molded rubber which attaches to a canvas or neoprene material that covers the leg. Muck boots are available in different styles from various manufacturers and may be purchased in different heights and sizes. While generally very durable, sometimes holes develop that need to be repaired to keep the boots waterproof.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderate

Things You’ll Need:
  • Rubber sealant such as Aqua Seal
  • Plastic or latex glove
Step 1
Locate the hole or puncture in the muck boot. Determine if the hole penetrates completely through the boot. Even if the hole does not go all the way through it may still be a good idea to patch the area to prevent further damage.
Step 2
Clean the area with mild soapy water to remove any debris or muck which may have accumulated around or in the hole. Rinse any soap from the area and allow to it to thoroughly dry before patching.
Step 3
Place a finger at the point of the hole on the inside of the boot. Wear a plastic or latex glove to protect your fingers and hands while working with the sealing product. Apply a small amount of Aqua Seal or other rubber sealant to the exterior of the boot and force the sealant into and through the hole.
Step 4
Allow the sealant to slightly spread around the hole on the inside of the boot by varying the pressure of your finger on the inside of the boot. Smooth the sealant to form a circle which is slightly larger than the hole itself.
Step 5
Set the boot aside in a warm and dry location and allow the sealant to completely cure before attempting to use the boot.

Tips & Warnings

There are various sealants on the market in addition to Aqua Seal including Shoe Goo. When using any of these products, follow manufacturer's directions completely.
