How to Make Campfire Popcorn

How to Make Campfire Popcorn
Aside from s'mores, campfire popcorn can be one of the more enjoyable food experiences on your camping trip.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Easy

Things You’ll Need:
  • Aluminum foil Oil Unpopped pocorn Salt Butter Stick to hold foil over fire
  • Aluminum foil
  • Oil
  • Unpopped pocorn
  • Salt
  • Butter
  • Stick to hold foil over fire
Step 1
Build your fire, keeping campfire protocol in mind (don't build a huge fire, don't build fires next to flammable objects---tents, trees, brush, etc.---and utilize existing fire pits, pans or grills.)
Step 2
Prepare your food. Mix in a bowl 1 tbsp. and a splash of oil and ¼ cup unpopped popcorn.
Step 3
Prepare your cooking pouch. Tear off a 20-inch piece of aluminum foil. Pour the oil and popcorn in the middle of the foil. Fold the corners of the foil to make a pouch, and then tie that pouch to a stick. You can either hold the pouch over the fire or place it directly on the coals.
Step 4
Wait for the corn to start popping. Pick up pouch and gently shake over coals/fire until popping is done.
Step 5
Open pouch, Add butter and salt to taste. Serve to four people.

Tips & Warnings

Be sure to seal your pouch so that the popcorn doesn't fly out when it begins popping. If you are preparing your popcorn in a back country situation, you can carry nutritional yeast in place of butter. It is flavorful, but will not melt.
