How to Clean Bicycle Rims
Cleaning bicycle rims isn't that difficult. If you use your bike a lot, it's inevitable that the rims will get dirty and will need cleaning. By keeping them clean, you'll prolong their life and good looks, as well as keep the brake pads working better. With a few household cleaners and some elbow grease, soon your rims will be sparkling once again.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy

Things You’ll Need:
  • Household degreasing cleanser Cloth Water Green scrub pad
  • Household degreasing cleanser
  • Cloth
  • Water
  • Green scrub pad
Step 1
Spray some degreasing cleaner on your bicycle rims, making sure to cover all areas. Any cleaner will work as long as it has degreasing action in it.
Step 2
Allow the spray to sit on the dirty rims for about 10 minutes before you start cleaning them. This will allow the degreaser work on the dirt and grime and make it a bit easier to wipe off. Hit the brake pads as well. Keeping them clean with help them operate more efficiently.
Step 3
Wet your cloth with some water and begin wiping the rims off. You may need to spray more cleanser on the rims as you wipe away the dirt.
Step 4
Scrub off any dirt that is still clinging to the rims with the scrub pad. These pads won't scratch the rim's surface, but will help in removing any stubborn dirt that won't wipe off with the damp cloth.
Step 5
Rinse your cloth once you've cleaned all the dirt from the rims. Wipe down the rims with the clean cloth to remove any residue that's left. Rinse any residue left from the cleaner off the brake pads too.
