How to Get a Discount on Hotels

How to Get a Discount on Hotels
One of the biggest costs in your travel budget is your hotel accommodations. When you're ready for your next adventure, knowing how to save money on your hotel stay could mean the difference between experiencing all that your destination has to offer and not being able to afford the trip. Don't settle on the advertised rate. Instead, use the right strategies to find discounts on your next hotel stay.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderate

Step 1
Contact a hotel in as many ways as possible to ensure you are receiving the best rate. Many hotels have a local phone number, a national 800 number and a Web site. Don't assume that the prices offered at each are the same. Try all three and book with the contact that offers you the best price.
Step 2
Ask if any discounts are available when booking your room. When you get to the hotel, ask again.
Step 3
Plan your trip during off-peak times. If a convention or event is in town, you probably won't receive a discount on your room. In fact, hotels may raise the price of a night's stay in advance of the convention. If possible, plan your travel schedule so that your stay occurs when the hotel won't be packed. The hotel wants visitors and may offer a discount to earn your business.
Step 4
Plan your trip in the middle of the week. Hotels that are busy on weekends often find themselves with many vacant rooms on the weekdays. The hotel may offer a discount for your weekday stay.
Step 5
Contact hotels that are slightly farther away from your destination. If you're willing to drive about 20 to 30 minutes, you may find discounts that are not available in the city.
