How to Find the Cheapest Air Ticket to Nigeria

How to Find the Cheapest Air Ticket to Nigeria
The country of Nigeria is home to 22 airports with paved runways. Of these, four cities are international hubs: Abuja, Kano, Lagos / Ikeja, and Port Harcourt. Nigeria is home to the world famous Alpha Beach, Chappal Wadi, many national parks, and near the southeastern city of Calabar, a diverse array of butterflies. If you want to experience all that Nigeria has to offer, finding discounted airfare is easier than ever before, thanks to a variety of online resources.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Challenging

Step 1
Contact the primary carriers that travel to Nigeria. Virgin Nigeria Airways is the national airline. Budget airlines that operate in NIgeria include Sosoliso Airlines, Chanchangi Airlines and IRS Airlines.
Step 2
Fly to a neighboring country and take a discount flight from there to Nigeria, or depart from a different airport near your home. Airlines generally charge higher prices for destinations that are very popular, as they have guaranteed customers for that route. At the time this article was written, it was about $200 cheaper to fly from Boston to Lagos, Nigeria, than it was to fly out of NYC.

If you elect to fly into another county and then fly to Nigeria, you have a few options. One popular African city to fly into is Porto Novo, Benin. You may also take an overland bus from Benin into Nigeria instead. Take some time to search around, and ask for advice from a travel agent. At the time this article was written, there were vast differences in airfare prices to Nigeria from various African countries. For example, a flight from Cairo to Lagos was about $700, whereas flying to Lagos from Marrakech would set you back nearly $1300.
Step 3
Book mid-week flights, which are usually cheaper because most travelers prefer to depart on the weekends.
Step 4
Use an online price comparison tool, such as Kayak.com, Wholesale-Fares.com or Bootsnall.com, which will compare fares on multiple carriers to help you find the best deals.
Step 5
Call a travel agent, and let him know that you are willing to be flexible on your departure date. Flexibility allows you to get the best possible deal. Make sure to book early through the travel agency; by booking early, if rates drop, you travel agent can re-book your flight and you get to pocket the difference.
