Omron Walking Style Pedometer Instructions
If you're looking for a great way to get the most out of your daily walking workout, an Omron pedometer is an excellent tool. Measure the number of steps that you take, the distance you travel and calories you burn with one easy-to-use, lightweight device. Your Omron pedometer won't do you any good unless you set it up properly so set each function accurately and get walking! Since Omron's set-up and controls are slightly different from model to model, this article is based on the flagship HJ 720-ITC model.

Instructions

Basic Set-Up

Things You’ll Need:
  • Tape measure CR2032 battery Computer with Omron software downloaded
  • Tape measure

Step 1
Insert the battery. Use the included screwdriver to loosen the battery cover on the back of the pedometer. Insert the battery with the positive side face up.
Step 2
Set the time. Once the battery is inserted, the hours will begin flashing. Hit "Memo" to scroll forward through hours. Hit "Set" when the correct hour is selected. Do the same for minutes; hold the "Memo" button down to skip through 10-minute intervals or tap it for single minutes.
Step 3
Set your weight. When the weight flashes, hit the "Memo" button to adjust by one-pound increments. Hold it down to adjust by 10-pound increments. Hit "Set" when you reach your weight. (Weight range is 70 to 300 pounds).
Step 4
Measure your stride length. Walk 10 steps and measure out the distance with a tape measure. Divide the total distance by 10 to get your stride length.
Step 5
Enter the stride length. When stride length flashes, use the "Memo" button to adjust to your measured stride. Hit "Memo" to increase by single inches, hold it down to increase by four-inch increments. (Stride length range is one to four feet). Hit "Set" when done.

Field Use

Step 1
Place the pedometer in a front jacket or pants pocket or bag. You can also use the included clip to clip the pedometer to the front of your pants or belt. The display of the unit should be at no less than a 60-degree angle with the ground.
Step 2
Begin to walk. The pedometer will begin reading once you've walked for four consecutive seconds.
Step 3
Toggle through readings. Use the "Mode/Event" button to change the displayed readings. You can view total number of steps, number of aerobic steps with minutes, calories/fat burned or distance.

Data

Step 1
Check your weekly data. The Omron pedometer will save data from 41 days on its internal memory. You can view the data from the past seven days and download all data to your computer for further viewing.
Step 2
Hit "Mode/Event" to get to the specific data page that you want. Then hit "Memo" to scroll through days. Hit it once to go back one day.
Step 3
Download data to your computer. You should have already installed the included software before download. Take the USB cover off the top of the pedometer.
Step 4
Insert the USB cable into the computer and the mini-USB into the pedometer. "PC" will display on the pedometer.
Step 5
Select "Download Data" on your computer. Then hit "Yes" at the prompt.
Step 6
Hit "Ok" when download is complete to view your data graph.
