How to Build a Fishing Rod Stand
There are many types of fishing rod stands available on the market. Ranging from very simple plastic models to more expensive and elaborate hand finished wooden stands that sit on the floor, there are many types from which to choose. However, it is possible to construct a durable stand from PVC, which is moderately easy to assemble and is even portable for use at the lake, beach or other outings.

How to Build a Fishing Rod Stand

Things You’ll Need:
  • 3 - 2-inch PVC pipes Saw for cutting pipe 3 - 2-inch PVC T fittings 4 - 2-inch end caps
  • 3 - 2-inch PVC pipes
  • Saw for cutting pipe
  • 3 - 2-inch PVC T fittings
  • 4 - 2-inch end caps
Step 1
Cut the PVC pipe into six, 6-inch sections. Use a PVC saw or other fine-toothed saw for cutting.
Step 2
Insert one piece of pipe into the side of a T connector and then another piece of pipe into the opposite side of the connector.
Step 3
Attach a T connector to both of the extended ends of pipe. Make sure the center connection is used so that there are two opposite ends directly across from one another.
Step 4
Insert a section of pipe into each opening of the T connector. This will form the support legs for the stand. Place end caps on all four pieces of pipe extending from the end T connectors. The stand should resemble an H shape with a T connector in the middle.
Step 5
Insert a piece of pipe into the center T connector so that it is pointing upward. This will be where the handle of the rod is inserted. Securely tighten all connections by hand.

Tips & Warnings

Adjust the size of the pipe based on the diameter of the rod handle as needed. To make the stand more permanent, use PVC cement on all of the connections.

Use caution when cutting the PVC pipe as it is possible to receive a cut from the saw, especially as the pipe is prone to rolling.
