How to Clean an RV Awning

How to Clean an RV Awning
The front of your RV is sort of like the front of your house in that you want it to have a good, tidy appearance. One of the key elements is having a clean awning. Cleaning your awning is also an important part of maintaining it for many years of service.

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy

Things You’ll Need:
  • Scrub brush
Step 1
Take down your awning and lay it out. For spot-cleaning, leave it on its frame, but set it up so you can access it.
Step 2
Remove any mold and mildew from the awning. For a very moldy awning, mix two cups of bleach per gallon of water in a tub. Dunk the awning into the tub and leave it there for at least 30 minutes. Pin the awning onto a clothesline to dry in the sun. For spot-cleaning mold, use the same proportions of bleach and water in a spray bottle, apply the disinfecting mixture to the mold and rub it out with a scrub brush.
Step 3
Wet down the awning with a hose and remove any dirt or stains. Make a soapy mix of dishwashing detergent and water in a bucket, dip your scrub brush and scrub out the filth. The procedure is similar if the awning is left up.
Step 4
Rinse the awning again with the hose. If you took the awning off the RV for cleaning, pin it to a clothesline and dry it in the sun. If you left it up and spot-cleaned it, then leave it erected so it will dry in the sun on its own.
