How to Save Money on Airline Tickets to Hawaii

How to Save Money on Airline Tickets to Hawaii
Hawaii is filled with opportunities for exotic outdoor adventures from climbing volcanoes to snow-topped mountains and every kind of water sport. Although Hawaii may be perceived as an expensive vacation destination, there are some opportunities to book Hawaiian vacation packages and specials to suit your budget. Since airline tickets generally account for a significant part of the travel expense, one way of reducing the cost is by finding cheaper airline tickets to Hawaii.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderate

Step 1
Conduct your online research and compare the rates of airline companies. Take into account your island destination, as there are airports in Hawaii that don't accommodate large airlines. In most cases, you can get lower airfare rates from larger airlines, so compare your airline options and airport choices when comparison shopping pricing options.
Step 2
Travel between April and May or between August and November, if possible. Airlines tend to offer deeper discounts to Hawaii during these months. Travel Hawaii is a Hawaiian based travel website that offers specials and insider information on traveling to Hawaii. Check out the specials tab on their website (http://travel-hawaii.com/continental.html) to find year-round specials and even deeper discounts during the off-peak months.
Step 3
Register to receive travel alerts. Register with the airline websites and travel websites to receive travel deal alerts. Not only will these sites send you an email regarding special airline fares but many of them will also send you hotel and car rental deals as well. Acting on these alerts may allow you to book a Hawaiian vacation without paying full price on airfare.
Step 4
Select an all-inclusive travel package. If you do need to purchase airline tickets, book hotel accommodation and a rental car, consider purchasing package deals rather than booking each item separately. Booking package deals can be less expensive and can save you the hassle of having to find and book each item.
Step 5
Check for last minute deals. If you have flexibility on your travel dates and times, you can also check for last minute deals. Airlines that aren't able to fill flights often times offer cheaper airline tickets during the week of travel.
Step 6
Use travel points and rewards. If you have frequent flier points or have a credit card with reward travel certificates, check into cashing in your points. You may have enough points for a free airline ticket or you may have enough points to trade in for a discount on the price of your tickets.

Tips & Warnings

Make your reservations online through travel sites and airline companies rather than a travel agent to cut back on the cost. Booking flights out of and into major cities may save you money on airline tickets. For travel to Hawaii during peak season (not in the months mentioned), inquire of "early bird" programs offered by travel agencies. Most of this cheap airfare rates offered by airline companies have a "no-refund" clause, so you should finalize and confirm all your travel plans before booking your airline reservations.
