How to Find a Hotel in Central Falls, Rhode Island

How to Find a Hotel in Central Falls, Rhode Island
The tiny city of Central Falls, Rhode Island lies between the city of Pawtucket and the towns of Cumberland and Lincoln. It's touted by "Ripley's Believe It or Not" as the smallest, most densely populated city in the United States. Unfortunately, despite the number of people packed into this tight 1.5-square-mile space, there are no hotels in the city. Thus, you will have to search the surrounding areas when booking your accommodations.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy

Step 1
Focus your search for hotel accommodations in the largest of the nearby cities: Providence, Rhode Island. Providence lies within five miles of Central Falls, but has a much larger selection of motels and hotels than nearby Pawtucket, Attleboro and Rumford. The larger selection will garner you a better chance of finding a room that will suit your tastes and budget.
Step 2
Search out Internet-only specials. Some travel Web sites will save you time and energy by searching multiple travel sites at once. After using one of these sites, write down the best hotel rates you find for the dates you'll be staying and then go directly to the hotels' websites to see if there are better rates there.
Step 3
Dial the hotel directly and ask for an in-house room reservationist. This will garner you a better chance to wheel and deal than it would if you were shuttled over to the switchboard. Ask for the best room rate, tell them the rate you found and see if they are willing to dip below that rate. If you do book directly on a hotel website, be sure to check back often in the weeks before your trip to see if the hotel is offering a better rate than what you originally booked. If so, call the hotel if to see if it can get you that lower rate.
Step 4
Check out major travel sites such as Travelocity, Expedia and Hotels.com. Those sites buy up rooms in bulk and discount them and can often offer rates the hotels themselves cannot beat.
Step 5
Go ahead and dicker. It's not impolite; it's business. Many reservationists will not offer special deals unless asked directly and are also trained to play a game called "fading." When you resist a rate, they often have the go-ahead to drop it to a lower approved rate you might otherwise never be offered.

Tips & Warnings

If you are staying for longer than a week, check out vacation rentals since they may have lower rates, especially in the off-season.

Always get the final price with room taxes and fees included before booking any room. Some travel websites jack up these fees to bolster their commission.
