Lake Mead recreation area, Red Rock Canyon and Mt. Charleston are all outdoor sport meccas that are less than 60 miles from the city of Las Vegas, making Vegas a natural base camp for exploring the area. However, Las Vegas has a reputation as a place to blow cash at a breakneck pace, not a place to save money. But, if you know where to go for the cheap eats, a Vegas area vacation can become a bargain gourmet's epicurean paradise as well as an outdoor extravaganza. Most of the Casinos cash in big time on the gambling tables and have implemented a variety of strategies to keep food cheap in order to keep you there losing your money. By hitting up the buffets, using the many available coupons, and even getting the casinos to comp your meals, you can easily have some of the grandest feasts of your life without shelling out big money.

  • Map of Vegas
  • Coupon books
  • Gambling chips
  • Casino hotel room
  • Players card
Step 1
Go for all you can eat. The buffets in Las Vegas are legendary for their never-ending selection of sometimes greasy, sometimes delectable all you can eat smorgasbords. The biggest casinos usually have the biggest, best and often the cheapest buffets as they can afford to lay out the spread in order to keep you in between their doors. Check out the buffet at Bellagio and the Spice Market buffet at Planet Hollywood for some of the most ridiculously incredible selections, and the Feast Vally buffet at Green Valley Ranch for all you can eat at bargain basement prices.
Step 2
Clip those coupons. There are several big coupon books that are full of all sorts of great dining deals including two for ones that are for sale in Vegas. However, many casinos offer free coupon books that are just as good when you sign up for a Players Card, which is usually free. Many of the restaurants outside of the casinos, including great ethnic restaurants, have very good coupon deals in the coupon books and you can save an incredible amount of money by taking advantage of these special offers.
Step 3
Get comped. That's right, you can eat for free in Vegas--provided you are willing to lose enough money gambling that is. To get comps you will usually need to have a Players card, usually available free of charge. Stick your Players Card in the slot machine you are using or in the gambling table by your seat and it will keep track of how much you are playing and award you comp credit based on it. You get comp credit whether you win or lose--they just want you to play. Take your Players Card back to the desk when you're finished gambling to pick up whatever free food tickets you may have earned.
