Many of us have considered taking a last-minute vacation. The thought of rushing off to kayak or lie on the beach is alluring. However, most of us do not take these last-minute vacations because we assume that the prices for such vacations are expensive. While this may be true in some cases, it is not true for all vacation packages. A little bit of last-minute research and planning can help you take your best vacation yet.

Call around. When you are looking for a great deal on a last-minute vacation package, don't overlook the age-old travel agent. Booking vacation packages online has become more common, but travel agents still have many connections that can get you a fantastic deal. Because agents will want your business in the future, they might be willing to pull a few strings to get you on your last-minute vacation cheaply.

Step 2

Bid on a vacation if you haven't found any great deals with a travel agent. Some travel websites, such as Priceline.com (see Resources), auction off vacation packages to the highest bidder. While this may be a little risky for some vacationers, others may find that they can get a great deal on a last-minute vacation.

Step 3

Consider the timing of your travel. It is possible to find great deals on last-minute vacation packages at any time. However, you may save some money if you can time your stay to coincide with less busy travel days. For example, if you are planning on vacationing in Las Vegas, going during a week as opposed to over a weekend can save you lots of money.
